Ingredients

  • 1 box chocolate cake mix (plus ingredients called for on the box)
  • 14 oz can sweetened condensed milk
  • 15 oz can coconut cream
  • 7 oz package sweetened shredded coconut
  • 12 oz container chocolate frosting
  • Toasted coconut or almond slivers for garnish (optional)

Instructions

  1. Prepare the Cake: Follow the instructions on the chocolate cake mix box to prepare the batter. Bake the cake in a greased 9×13 inch baking pan until a toothpick inserted in the center comes out clean.
  2. Poke Holes: While the cake is still warm, use the end of a wooden spoon to poke holes all over the top of the cake, spacing them about 1 inch apart.
  3. Mix and Pour: In a medium bowl, whisk together the sweetened condensed milk and coconut cream until well combined. Pour this mixture evenly over the warm cake, making sure it seeps into the holes.
  4. Cool the Cake: Allow the cake to cool completely to room temperature, which should take about 1-2 hours. As it cools, the cake will absorb the coconut milk mixture.
  5. Top with Coconut: Once the cake has cooled, sprinkle the shredded sweetened coconut evenly over the top.
  6. Add Frosting: Microwave the chocolate frosting for 20-30 seconds until it is pourable. Pour the frosting over the coconut layer and use a spatula to spread it evenly.
  7. Garnish and Chill: If desired, garnish with toasted coconut or almond slivers. Refrigerate the cake for at least 1 hour before slicing to allow it to set fully.
  8. Serve: Serve the cake chilled, either on its own or with a side of whipped cream or vanilla ice cream. Enjoy!
