Taco Braid Recipe
Indulge in the savory delight of a Taco Braid—featuring super lean ground beef seasoned to perfection with taco seasoning, enveloped in a blanket of shredded cheese, tomatoes, all encased within a braided pizza dough.
Ingredients:
- Lean Ground Beef: 1 lb / 470 grams
- Pizza Dough: 1 (refrigerated)
- Lettuce: 2 cups (chopped)
- Cheese: 1 cup (shredded)
- Fiesta Mix
- Onions: 1/2 cup (chopped)
- Water: 1/2 cup
- Homemade Taco Spice: 3 tablespoons
- Olive Oil: 2 tablespoons
- Tomato: 1, diced (plus extra for garnish)
- Melted Butter: 2 tablespoons (for brushing)
- Sour Cream and Taco Sauce for serving (optional)
Directions:
- Preheat your oven to 375°F (190°C) and line a baking sheet with parchment paper.
- Heat olive oil in a large skillet over medium heat. Add chopped onions and cook until tender, about 5 minutes. Then add the lean ground beef and cook until browned.
- Stir in water and homemade taco seasoning, mixing until well combined. Reduce heat and simmer for 7 minutes.
- Place parchment paper on your work surface and roll out the pizza dough to a 10×15-inch rectangle. Using a pizza cutter, make 1.5-inch diagonal cuts along both long sides of the dough, about 3 inches apart.
- Spread the cooked ground beef mixture evenly down the center of the dough. Sprinkle 3/4 cup of shredded cheese over the beef, then add diced tomatoes. To braid, fold the cut dough strips over the filling, alternating sides.
- Repeat the braiding process until all strips are folded over. Tuck the ends under to seal.
- Gently brush the top and sides of the braid with melted butter. Sprinkle the remaining 1/4 cup of cheese over the top.
- Transfer the braid onto the prepared baking sheet and bake for 20 to 25 minutes, or until golden brown. Allow it to cool for 5 minutes before slicing.
- Garnish the top with chopped lettuce and additional diced tomatoes. Serve with sour cream and taco sauce on the side.
Enjoy the delicious fusion of flavors in every bite of this Taco Braid masterpiece!
