Philly Cheese Steak Sloppy Joes Recipe
Ingredients:
- 1 pound lean ground beef
- 2 tablespoons butter
- 1 small yellow onion, diced
- 1 small green bell pepper, diced
- 8 ounces brown mushrooms, chopped
- 2 tablespoons tomato sauce
- 1 tablespoon Worcestershire sauce
- 1/2 teaspoon kosher salt
- 1/2 teaspoon freshly ground black pepper
- 1 tablespoon cornstarch
- 1 cup beef broth
- 8 ounces chopped provolone cheese slices (use 6 ounces if you prefer less cheese)
- 6 brioche burger buns
Instructions:
- In a large cast iron pan, brown the ground beef until a dark crust forms, then break it apart into smaller pieces.
- Stir the beef occasionally and continue cooking until about half of it has developed a deep crust.
- Remove the beef from the pan and add butter, onions, bell peppers, and mushrooms. Allow them to brown for 1-2 minutes before stirring, then repeat until they’re evenly browned.
- Return the beef to the pan. In a small cup, mix together beef broth and cornstarch. Add tomato sauce, Worcestershire sauce, salt, pepper, and the beef broth-cornstarch mixture to the pan.
- Cook until the mixture is slightly thickened, about 3 to 5 minutes.
- Turn off the heat and stir in the provolone cheese until melted.
- Serve the mixture on toasted brioche buns.
