Philly Cheese Steak Sloppy Joes Recipe
Ingredients:
- 1 pound of lean ground beef
- 2 tablespoons of butter
- 1 small yellow onion, diced
- 1 small green bell pepper, diced
- 8 ounces of brown mushrooms, minced
- 2 tablespoons of ketchup
- 1 tablespoon of Worcestershire sauce
- 1/2 teaspoon of Kosher salt
- 1/2 teaspoon of fresh ground black pepper
- 1 tablespoon of cornstarch
- 1 cup of beef broth
- 8 ounces of Provolone cheese slices, chopped (use 6oz if you prefer less cheese)
- 6 brioche hamburger buns
Instructions:
- Heat a large cast iron skillet over medium-high heat. Add the ground beef and allow it to brown until a deep brown crust forms before breaking it apart.
- Stir the ground beef occasionally, allowing it to brown evenly until about 50% of it develops a deep crust.
- Remove the beef from the skillet, leaving any fat behind. Add the butter, onions, bell peppers, and mushrooms to the skillet. Let them brown for 1-2 minutes without stirring, then continue cooking for another 1-2 minutes, stirring occasionally.
- Return the beef to the skillet.
- In a small cup, mix the beef broth and cornstarch until well combined.
- Add the ketchup, Worcestershire sauce, salt, black pepper, and the beef broth/cornstarch mixture to the skillet.
- Cook the mixture until it thickens slightly, leaving about 75% of it above the liquid, for about 3-5 minutes.
- Turn off the heat and stir in the chopped Provolone cheese until it melts and combines with the mixture.
- Serve the Philly Cheese Steak Sloppy Joes on toasted brioche buns.
