Ingredients:

  • 2 1/4 cups of all-purpose flour
  • 1/4 cup of granulated sugar
  • 1 1/4 teaspoons of active dry yeast
  • 1 teaspoon of salt
  • 1 cup of cold unsalted butter
  • 2/3 cup of cold milk
  • 1 egg for egg wash

Directions:

  1. In a bowl, thoroughly mix the flour, sugar, yeast, and salt.
  2. Cut the cold butter into small cubes and incorporate it into the flour mixture using a pastry cutter or your fingertips until you achieve a coarse, crumbly texture.
  3. Gradually add the cold milk to the mixture and combine until a dough forms.
  4. Transfer the dough onto a floured surface and briefly knead until it comes together.
  5. Roll out the dough into a rectangle shape, then fold it into thirds similar to a letter.
  6. Repeat the rolling and folding process two more times.
  7. Wrap the dough in plastic wrap and refrigerate for at least 1 hour, or preferably overnight.
  8. Preheat your oven to 425°F (220°C).
  9. Roll out the chilled dough into a large rectangle and cut it into triangles.
  10. Roll each triangle tightly, starting from the wide end, to create the croissant shape.
  11. Place the croissants on a baking sheet lined with parchment paper.
  12. Beat the egg and brush it over the croissants for a golden glaze.
  13. Bake for 15-18 minutes or until the croissants turn golden brown and become flaky.
  14. Enjoy your freshly baked, buttery croissants!
