Perfect Croissants Recipe
Ingredients:
- 2 1/4 cups of all-purpose flour
- 1/4 cup of granulated sugar
- 1 1/4 teaspoons of active dry yeast
- 1 teaspoon of salt
- 1 cup of cold unsalted butter
- 2/3 cup of cold milk
- 1 egg for egg wash
Directions:
- In a bowl, thoroughly mix the flour, sugar, yeast, and salt.
- Cut the cold butter into small cubes and incorporate it into the flour mixture using a pastry cutter or your fingertips until you achieve a coarse, crumbly texture.
- Gradually add the cold milk to the mixture and combine until a dough forms.
- Transfer the dough onto a floured surface and briefly knead until it comes together.
- Roll out the dough into a rectangle shape, then fold it into thirds similar to a letter.
- Repeat the rolling and folding process two more times.
- Wrap the dough in plastic wrap and refrigerate for at least 1 hour, or preferably overnight.
- Preheat your oven to 425°F (220°C).
- Roll out the chilled dough into a large rectangle and cut it into triangles.
- Roll each triangle tightly, starting from the wide end, to create the croissant shape.
- Place the croissants on a baking sheet lined with parchment paper.
- Beat the egg and brush it over the croissants for a golden glaze.
- Bake for 15-18 minutes or until the croissants turn golden brown and become flaky.
- Enjoy your freshly baked, buttery croissants!
