Oxtails Recipe

Ingredients:

  • 3 lbs oxtails
  • 1 medium-sized yellow onion, finely chopped
  • 2 tbsp of homemade BBQ rub/seasoning OR 2 tsp of your favorite store-bought BBQ seasoning
  • 2 tbsp vegetable oil
  • 3 cups BBQ sauce
  • A desired amount of liquid smoke (slightly over 1 tbsp)
  • 3 cups beef broth OR chicken broth OR water

Directions:

  1. Place oxtails and chopped onions in a large mixing bowl, drizzling the oil evenly over the oxtails.
  2. Ensure a thorough coating by mixing everything well, then sprinkle the BBQ seasoning over the oxtails.
  3. Transfer the oxtails and onions to a large pot, setting it over medium-high heat.
  4. Brown the oxtails and onions, then transfer them to a slow cooker.
  5. Return to the pot used for browning, pouring in the chicken broth OR water.
  6. Add barbecue sauce and liquid smoke, stirring the mixture, and let it cook for 5 minutes over medium heat.
  7. Pour the barbecue sauce over the oxtails, cover the slow cooker with a lid.
  8. Cook on LOW for 6 hours.
  9. Serve with your preferred sides.
