Oklahoma Fried Onion Burgers
Ingredients:
- 1 ½ pounds ground beef (80% lean)
- 1 large onion, thinly sliced
- Salt and pepper to taste
- 4 hamburger buns
- Condiments (ketchup, mustard, mayonnaise, etc.)
- Cheese slices (optional)
- Pickles, lettuce, tomatoes, and other toppings of your choice
Pro Tip: For a “Big Mac” flavor, try adding some Thousand Island Dressing.
Instructions:
- Prepare the Beef Patties: Divide the ground beef into four equal portions, shaping each into a 3-ounce ball.
- Preheat Your Cooking Surface: Heat a large skillet or griddle over medium-high heat.
- Flatten the Patties: Place the beef balls onto the preheated skillet or griddle. Using an offset spatula, press each ball down to flatten it as much as possible. Use a second spatula to apply additional pressure to ensure even flattening. Season the patties generously with salt and pepper.
- Add the Onions: Quickly distribute the thinly sliced onions evenly over the patties on the skillet or griddle. Press down with the spatula to embed the onions into the meat.
- Cook the Patties: Let the burgers cook undisturbed until well-browned, approximately 2 minutes. For medium-rare burgers, aim for an internal temperature of 130-135°F (54-57°C).
- Flip the Burgers: Carefully flip the burgers so the onions are now on the bottom. Cook for about 1 minute to allow the onions to soften.
- Add Cheese (Optional): If desired, place cheese slices on the patties and let them melt.
- Toast the Buns: While the patties cook, toast the hamburger buns until they are slightly crispy.
- Assemble and Serve: Assemble the burgers with your choice of condiments and toppings. Serve the Oklahoma Fried Onion Burgers immediately while they’re still warm. Enjoy with fries!
