Instructions:
- In a small skillet, heat olive oil over medium-high heat and sauté onions and bell peppers for 3-4 minutes; set aside.
- In a large bowl, combine ground beef, Italian sausage, sautéed onions, bell peppers, and all remaining ingredients (except 3/4 cup mozzarella cheese for topping).
- Mix thoroughly using your hands until well combined.
- Mold the mixture into a baking dish of your choice; consider using an oval Portuguese stoneware.
- Spoon 1/2 to 3/4 cup of marinara sauce on top and spread it evenly.
- Bake in a preheated 400-degree oven for 50 minutes.
- Remove from the oven and top with the remaining mozzarella cheese; sprinkle a pinch of dry basil over the top.
- Return to the oven for an additional 10 minutes.
