Delicious Scones Recipe
Ingredients:
- 2 cups flour (all-purpose or cake flour)
- 3 tablespoons white sugar
- 1/2 cup cold grated unsalted butter (113g)
- 1/2 cup buttermilk
- 3 tablespoons custard powder
- 1 egg
- 1 teaspoon vanilla essence
- 2 teaspoons baking powder
- 1/4 teaspoon bicarbonate of soda
- 1/4 teaspoon salt
All ingredients should be chilled.
Instructions:
- In a spacious bowl, sift in flour, baking powder, bicarbonate of soda, custard powder, sugar, and salt. Whisk thoroughly.
- Add cold grated butter. Use your fingertips to rub it into the dry ingredients until a crumbly mixture forms.
- In a separate small bowl, combine buttermilk, egg, and vanilla. Mix well. Pour this mixture into the flour mixture.
- Stir just enough to combine the wet and dry ingredients. Transfer the dough onto a lightly floured surface.
- Gently spread and slightly flatten the dough using a rolling pin or your palm.
- Dust your cookie cutter with flour as you cut out each piece. Place the cut pieces on a prepared baking tray.
- Brush the top of each scone with milk or an egg wash.
- Bake in a preheated oven at 180 degrees Celsius for approximately 18 minutes or until the tops are lightly golden brown.
Note: If using salted butter, omit adding extra salt to the recipe.
