Decadent Chocolate Wet Cake
Ingredients:
For the Cake:
- 2 cups of all-purpose flour
- 2 cups of granulated sugar
- 3/4 cup of unsweetened cocoa powder
- 2 teaspoons of baking soda
- 1 teaspoon of baking powder
- 1 teaspoon of salt
- 1 cup of buttermilk
- 1 cup of vegetable oil
- 2 large eggs
- 2 teaspoons of vanilla extract
- 1 cup of hot water or hot coffee
For the Fudge Frosting:
- 1 cup of unsalted butter
- 1/3 cup of milk
- 1/3 cup of unsweetened cocoa powder
- 3 cups of powdered sugar
- 1 teaspoon of vanilla extract
For the Garnish:
- Fresh strawberries
- Chocolate sprinkles or chocolate shavings
Instructions:
- Preheat and Prepare: Preheat the oven to 350°F (175°C). Grease and flour two 9-inch round cake pans.
- Mix Dry Ingredients: In a large bowl, whisk together the flour, sugar, cocoa powder, baking soda, baking powder, and salt.
- Combine Wet Ingredients: In another bowl, mix the buttermilk, vegetable oil, eggs, and vanilla extract until well combined.
- Combine Wet and Dry Ingredients: Add the wet ingredients to the dry ingredients and mix until well combined. Carefully stir in the hot water or coffee until the batter is smooth.
- Bake the Cake: Pour the batter evenly into the prepared pans. Bake for 30-35 minutes or until a toothpick inserted into the center comes out clean.
- Make the Frosting: While the cake is baking, melt the butter in a saucepan over medium heat. Stir in the milk and cocoa powder, then gradually mix in the powdered sugar and vanilla extract until smooth.
- Assemble the Cake: Allow the cakes to cool completely, then frost with the chocolate fudge frosting. Layer the cakes if desired.
- Garnish: Decorate with fresh strawberries and chocolate sprinkles or shavings.
- Serve: Enjoy the cake fresh, and store any leftovers in an airtight container to maintain moisture.
