Decadent Chocolate Mounds Cake
Indulging in a sweet treat occasionally is a joy, especially when it’s your husband’s favorite – chocolate. While
our commitment to a healthy lifestyle remains steadfast, holidays call for delightful exceptions. This Father’s
Day, I decided to surprise my husband with a Chocolate Mounds Cake, and to my delight, it earned the title of
the best cake I’ve ever made from him.
Although I typically prefer crafting our meals from scratch, the demands of daily life, compounded by persistent
morning sickness, led me to opt for a convenient solution – a cake mix. Despite taking a shortcut, the result
was a Chocolate Mounds Cake that garnered enthusiastic praise from both my husband and children, prompting me
to share the recipe with you.
Ingredients:
- 1 cake mix (white or yellow)
- ½ cup cocoa
- ½ cup sugar
- 2 cups chocolate chips
- 1 cup chocolate syrup
- 8 oz. tub Cool Whip
- 2 cups shredded coconut
Instructions:
- Preparation: Preheat the oven to 350 degrees F and grease a 9×13 baking dish. Prepare the
cake mix according to package instructions, incorporating cocoa and sugar for an extra rich flavor. - Baking: Pour the cake mixture into the prepared baking dish and generously sprinkle 2 cups
of chocolate chips on top. - Bake: Allow the cake to bake for 30 minutes. Once done, remove it from the oven and
delicately poke holes in the cake using a meat fork. - Chocolate Drizzle: Warm the chocolate syrup and pour it over the hot cake, ensuring it
seeps into the holes. Cover the cake and let it cool overnight, allowing the flavors to meld. - Frosting: Combine Cool Whip and shredded coconut for a delightful frosting. Spread it over
the chilled cake and refrigerate until ready to serve.
This Chocolate Mounds Cake strikes the perfect balance between simplicity and indulgence, making it an ideal
dessert for special occasions. Enjoy the rich chocolatey goodness!
