Ingredients:

  • 4 large russet potatoes, peeled and chunked
  • 1/2 cup (1 stick) unsalted butter
  • 1 cup whole milk
  • Salt, to taste
  • Pepper, to taste
  • Optional: Chopped fresh chives or parsley for garnish

Instructions:

  1. Place the peeled and chopped potatoes in a large pot and cover them with cold water. Add a generous pinch of salt to the water.
  2. Bring the water to a boil over medium-high heat. Reduce the heat to medium and simmer the potatoes until they are fork-tender, about 15-20 minutes.
  3. While the potatoes are cooking, heat the butter and milk in a small saucepan over low heat until the butter is melted, and the milk is warm. Be careful not to boil the milk.
  4. Once the potatoes are tender, drain them well and return them to the pot.
  5. Mash the potatoes using a potato masher or a ricer. For extra smooth potatoes, use a hand mixer or stand mixer.
  6. Gradually add the warm milk and butter mixture to the mashed potatoes, mixing until you reach your desired consistency. Season with salt and pepper to taste.
  7. If desired, garnish with chopped fresh chives or parsley.
  8. Serve the mashed potatoes hot and enjoy!
