Ingredients

  • 4 cube steaks (approximately 1/3 pound each)
  • 1 cup all-purpose flour
  • 1 teaspoon garlic powder

  • 1 teaspoon smoked paprika
  • Salt and pepper to taste
  • 2 large eggs
  • 1/4 cup milk
  • Vegetable oil for frying

For the Gravy:

  • 2 tablespoons reserved frying oil
  • 2 tablespoons all-purpose flour
  • 2 cups milk
  • Salt and pepper to taste

Directions

  1. Prepare the Coating: In a shallow dish, combine the flour, garlic powder, onion powder, smoked paprika, salt, and pepper.
  2. Mix the Wet Ingredients: In a separate bowl, whisk together the eggs and milk.
  3. Coat the Steaks: Dredge each cube steak in the flour mixture, dip it in the egg mixture, and then coat it again with the flour mixture to ensure an even coating.
  4. Fry the Steaks: Heat vegetable oil in a large skillet over medium-high heat. Fry the steaks in batches until they are golden brown on both sides, approximately 4 minutes per side. Remove the steaks and place them on a plate lined with paper towels.
  5. Make the Gravy: Reduce the skillet heat to medium. Use about 2 tablespoons of the reserved frying oil. Sprinkle in the flour and whisk continuously for about 1 minute. Gradually add the milk, whisking to avoid lumps. Season with salt and pepper. Continue to cook until the gravy thickens, about 5-6 minutes.
  6. Serve: Serve the steaks hot with the gravy generously poured over the top.
