Classic Buttermilk Pie Recipe
Ingredients:
- 1 3/4 cups of sugar
- 1 stick (1/2 cup) of unsalted butter, at room temperature
- 3 eggs
- 1/4 teaspoon of vanilla extract
- Pinch of salt
- 3 tablespoons of all-purpose flour
- 1 tablespoon of buttermilk
- 1 9-inch pie shell, unbaked
Instructions:
- Begin by preheating your oven to 300 degrees Fahrenheit and lining a baking sheet with aluminum foil to catch any potential overflow.
- In a mixing bowl, cream together the sugar and unsalted butter until well blended.
- Add the eggs one at a time, beating well after each addition until the mixture is smooth.
- Stir in the vanilla extract, salt, and flour until fully incorporated.
- Beat in the buttermilk until the mixture is smooth and homogeneous.
- Pour the buttermilk mixture into the unbaked pie shell, filling it to the top. Any remaining mixture can be poured into an ungreased custard cup.
- Place the pie on the prepared baking sheet and bake in the preheated oven for about 1 hour and 10 minutes, or until the pie is set and golden brown on top.
- Once baked, remove the pie from the oven and allow it to cool almost completely before serving.
- Store any leftovers covered in the refrigerator.
