Classic Buttermilk Pie Recipe

Ingredients:

  • 1 3/4 cups of sugar
  • 1 stick (1/2 cup) of unsalted butter, at room temperature
  • 3 eggs
  • 1/4 teaspoon of vanilla extract
  • Pinch of salt
  • 3 tablespoons of all-purpose flour
  • 1 tablespoon of buttermilk
  • 1 9-inch pie shell, unbaked

Instructions:

  1. Begin by preheating your oven to 300 degrees Fahrenheit and lining a baking sheet with aluminum foil to catch any potential overflow.
  2. In a mixing bowl, cream together the sugar and unsalted butter until well blended.
  3. Add the eggs one at a time, beating well after each addition until the mixture is smooth.
  4. Stir in the vanilla extract, salt, and flour until fully incorporated.
  5. Beat in the buttermilk until the mixture is smooth and homogeneous.
  6. Pour the buttermilk mixture into the unbaked pie shell, filling it to the top. Any remaining mixture can be poured into an ungreased custard cup.
  7. Place the pie on the prepared baking sheet and bake in the preheated oven for about 1 hour and 10 minutes, or until the pie is set and golden brown on top.
  8. Once baked, remove the pie from the oven and allow it to cool almost completely before serving.
  9. Store any leftovers covered in the refrigerator.
