- 1 packet dry onion soup mix (approximately 1 ounce)
- 1 can (10.5 ounces) of condensed cream of mushroom soup
- 1/4 cup all-purpose flour (for thickening)
- 1/4 cup water
- 2 tablespoons Worcestershire sauce
- Freshly ground black pepper, to taste
Instructions:
- Start by placing the stew meat into your slow cooker.
- In a medium bowl, whisk together the onion soup mix, condensed cream of mushroom soup, flour, water, and Worcestershire sauce until the mixture is smooth and well combined.
- Pour this flavorful mixture over the beef in the slow cooker, ensuring the meat is evenly coated.
- Add freshly ground black pepper to taste and give the mixture a final stir.
- Set your slow cooker to low and cook for about 8 hours, or set it to high and cook for 4-5 hours, until the meat is tender and the flavors are well blended.
- Before serving, gently stir the contents. Serve the beef and rich onion gravy over your preferred side dish.
Variations & Tips:
- For dietary restrictions, substitute the cream of mushroom soup with a gluten-free or lower-sodium alternative.
- If you don’t prefer mushrooms, you can use cream of celery or cream of chicken soup instead.
- To accommodate picky eaters, puree the cooked onions from the gravy to retain the flavor while masking the texture.
- Enhance the nutritional value by adding carrots and peas during the last hour of cooking.
- For a variation, try this recipe with chicken thighs or pork tenderloin, adjusting the cooking times as necessary.
- Leftovers make an excellent filling for a savory beef pot pie, providing another delicious meal option.
