  • 2 cups strawberries, hulled and sliced
  • 20 ounces canned crushed pineapple, drained
  • 3 cups Cool Whip (1 tub)
  • 1/2 cup chocolate sauce
  • 1/2 cup walnuts, chopped
  • 25 maraschino cherries (10 chopped, 15 whole)

Instructions:

  1. Preheat oven to 350 degrees F (175 degrees C). Prepare the yellow cake mix according to package directions for a 9-inch x 13-inch pan. Bake and allow the cake to cool completely, approximately 1 hour.
  2. Cut the cooled cake into cubes and loosen them from the pan. Prepare the vanilla pudding according to package directions using the milk.
  3. In the bottom of a large glass serving bowl or trifle bowl, add half of the cake cubes. Top the cake with half of the prepared pudding and half of the sliced bananas.
  4. Arrange the sliced strawberries around the edge of the bowl, pressing them gently against the sides for an aesthetically pleasing layer. Sprinkle the remaining strawberries over the bananas.
  5. Layer half of the crushed pineapple over the strawberries. Top the fruit with half of the Cool Whip, followed by half of the chocolate syrup, half of the chopped walnuts, and all of the chopped cherries.
  6. Repeat the layers: cake, pudding, bananas, pineapple, Cool Whip, chocolate syrup, walnuts, and finally, top it off with the whole cherries.
  7. Cover the trifle with plastic wrap and refrigerate for at least 1 hour before serving. Keep chilled until ready to serve.
