Ingredients:

For The Batter:

  • 1 cup softened butter
  • 2 cups sugar
  • 2 eggs
  • 2 cups buttermilk or DIY buttermilk (2 cups milk + 2 tablespoons vinegar or lemon juice)
  • 4 cups flour
  • 2 teaspoons baking soda

For The Cinnamon/Sugar Mixture:

  • 2/3 cup sugar
  • 2 teaspoons cinnamon

How To Make Amish Cinnamon Bread:

  1. Cream together butter, 2 cups sugar, and eggs. Add buttermilk, flour, and baking soda.
  2. Place half of the batter (or slightly less) into greased loaf pans (1/4 in each pan).
  3. Mix 2/3 cup sugar and cinnamon in a separate bowl.
  4. Sprinkle 3/4 of the cinnamon mixture on top of the batter in each pan.
  5. Add the remaining batter to the pans; sprinkle with the last of the cinnamon topping.
  6. Swirl with a knife. Bake at 350 degrees for 45-50 minutes or until a toothpick tester comes out clean.
  7. Cool in the pan for 20 minutes before removing. This recipe yields 2 loaves.
