Crispy Fried Fish Fillets
Ingredients
- 1 1/2 pounds fish fillets (cod, catfish, haddock, or your preferred type)
- 1 cup all-purpose flour
- 1/2 cup cornmeal
- 1 teaspoon salt
- 1/2 teaspoon black pepper
- 1/2 teaspoon garlic powder
- 1/2 teaspoon paprika
- 1/4 teaspoon cayenne pepper (optional)
- 2 large eggs
- 1/4 cup milk
- Vegetable oil, for frying
- Lemon wedges, for serving
Preparation
1. Prepare the Coating:
In a shallow bowl, mix together flour, cornmeal, salt, black pepper, garlic powder, paprika, and cayenne pepper (if using).
In another shallow bowl, whisk eggs and milk until well combined.
2. Coat the Fish:
Pat fish fillets dry with paper towels.
Dip each fillet into the egg mixture, allowing excess to drip off.
Dredge fillets in the flour mixture, pressing gently to coat evenly.
3. Heat the Oil:
In a large skillet or deep fryer, heat about 1 inch of vegetable oil over medium-high heat until it reaches 350°F (175°C). To test if the oil is ready, drop a small piece of bread into it; it should sizzle and turn golden brown.
4. Fry the Fish:
Carefully place coated fish fillets into the hot oil, frying a few at a time to ensure even cooking.
Fry each side for 3-4 minutes until golden brown and crispy.
Remove fillets from the oil and drain on paper towels to remove excess oil.
5. Serve:
Serve hot crispy fried fish fillets with lemon wedges on the side.
