Perfect Ribeye Steak Recipe

Ingredients

  • 1 ribeye steak
  • Sea salt flakes
  • Freshly ground black pepper
  • 50g butter
  • 2 sprigs of thyme
  • 1 clove of garlic, crushed with the skin on

Directions

  1. Preparation: Remove the ribeye steak from the refrigerator at least 30 minutes before cooking to allow it to reach room temperature. This ensures even cooking.
  2. Seasoning: Generously season both sides of the steak with sea salt flakes and freshly ground black pepper. Make sure the seasoning covers the steak evenly.
  3. Heating the Pan: Heat a frying pan over medium-high heat. If cooking more than one steak, ensure the pan is large enough to accommodate them without overcrowding. Alternatively, use two pans and heat them simultaneously.
  4. Cooking the Steak: Place the steak in the hot pan and cook for 2 to 3 minutes on each side, depending on the thickness and desired doneness. For a guideline, a 3cm thick steak will take about 5 minutes in total. If you have a meat thermometer, aim for an internal temperature of 50°C for rare, 60°C for medium, and 70°C for well-done.
  5. Adding Flavor: After turning the steak for the first time, add the butter, thyme, and garlic to the pan. Baste the steak with the melted butter by tilting the pan towards you and spooning the butter over the steak continuously for about a minute.
  6. Resting: Remove the steak from the pan and let it rest for 5 minutes. This step is crucial as it allows the meat fibers to relax and reabsorb their juices, ensuring the steak remains juicy and flavorful when sliced.
  7. Serving: Slice the steak into strips, season again if necessary, and serve with your preferred side dishes and sauces.

Enjoy your perfectly cooked ribeye steak!
