Scalloped Potatoes Recipe

Ingredients:

  • 1/4 cup butter
  • 1 large onion, finely diced
  • 2 cloves garlic, minced
  • 1/4 cup all-purpose flour
  • 2 cups milk
  • 1 cup chicken broth
  • 1/2 teaspoon salt
  • 1/4 teaspoon pepper
  • 3 pounds white potatoes, thinly sliced (about 1/8″ thick)
  • Salt and pepper to taste

Instructions:

  1. Preheat the oven to 350˚F.
  2. Prepare the Sauce:

    • In a saucepan over medium-low heat, melt the butter, then sauté the diced onion and minced garlic until the onion is softened (approximately 3 minutes).
    • Add the flour and cook for an additional 1-2 minutes.
    • Reduce the heat to low. Gradually combine the milk and chicken broth, whisking continuously to avoid lumps. The mixture will thicken; keep adding liquid slowly until smooth.
    • Once all the liquid is incorporated, bring the mixture to a boil over medium heat, whisking continuously. Stir in salt and pepper, allowing it to boil for 1 minute.
  3. Assembly:

    • Grease a 9″x13″ baking dish.
    • Layer 1/3 of the sliced potatoes on the bottom, seasoning with salt and pepper. Pour 1/3 of the cream sauce over the potatoes.
    • Repeat the layers, finishing with a top layer of cream sauce.
    • Cover and bake for 45 minutes.
  4. Uncover and bake for an additional 35-45 minutes or until the top is golden brown and the potatoes are tender. Optionally, broil for 3-4 minutes for a golden top.
  5. Allow the dish to rest for 15 minutes before serving.

Enjoy this creamy and flavorful scalloped potatoes dish from your kitchen!
