Savor the Flavors: German Potato Pancakes

Ditch the ordinary pancakes and dive into the delightful world of German potato pancakes. This dish transforms a classic breakfast staple into a savory dinner delight, especially when paired with Bratwurst sausage. For a unique twist, I love to spread mine with cranberry sauce and generously drizzle with maple syrup.

Ingredients:

  • 2 large eggs
  • 2 tablespoons all-purpose flour
  • ¼ teaspoon baking powder
  • ½ teaspoon salt
  • ¼ teaspoon pepper
  • 6 medium potatoes, peeled and shredded
  • ½ cup finely chopped onion
  • ¼ cup vegetable oil

How To Make German Potato Pancakes:

  1. In a large bowl, beat together eggs, flour, baking powder, salt, and pepper. Stir in shredded potatoes and chopped onion.
  2. Heat vegetable oil in a large skillet over medium heat.
  3. Drop heaping tablespoonfuls of the potato mixture into the hot oil in batches, pressing to flatten.
  4. Cook until each side is browned and crisp, approximately 3 minutes per side.
  5. Transfer the golden pancakes to a paper towel-lined plate to drain.
  6. Repeat the process with the remaining potato mixture.

Indulge in the rich flavors and crisp texture of these German Potato Pancakes, a delightful departure from the ordinary breakfast fare.
